Arsenal have been linked with Eintracht Frankfurt and Switzerland midfielder Djibril Sow in recent days.

According to Sport BILD, the Gunners have joined Nottingham Forest in the race to land the box-to-box ace.

Arsenal are reportedly keeping tabs on potential midfield reinforcements in the January transfer window.

This is amid apparent concerns about the fitness of Thomas Partey and Granit Xhaka.

Indeed, Arsenal reportedly tried to sign Aston Villa’s Douglas Luiz in summer, but failed to get the deal over the line.

Now, with less than a month until the window reopens, the Gunners can delve into the market once again.

Sow isn’t a bad shout for Arsenal. He’s a talented World Cup-standard player in the prime of his career.

The 25-year-old was instrumental in Switzerland’s run to the last 16 of the competition.

Sow was also key in Eintracht Frankfurt’s Europa League triumph last season.

Sport1 – via Sport Witness – claims the Bundesliga side won’t do business for less than around £26million.

‘Well suited to going box-to-box’

In terms of style of play, the Bundesliga website has compared the Arsenal target to Bayern Munich’s Leon Goretzka.

‘One of Sow’s idols growing up was Thierry Henry,’ they wrote last year.

‘But the Eagles midfielder is a much more destructive player than the former Arsenal, Barcelona, and France star.

‘The Eintracht man can play any role in central midfield. But being quick, powerful and good in the tackle means he is well suited to going box-to-box.

‘His passing success rate of just over 90 percent also made him the ninth-best player in the league in that category in 2020/21.

‘In that sense he is a bit like Bayern Munich’s Goretzka, although Sow will need to add more goals to his game to truly match up to the Germany powerhouse.’
