Arsenal are a club who get mentioned a lot when it comes to different transfer rumours, both incoming and outgoing.

Edu and Mikel Arteta have overseen a huge change at the club. That’s seen a number of players leaving for pastures new, and a big chunk of money spent on new recruits. For that reason, the Gunners are never far away from the headlines when it comes to transfer season.

This weekend, then, has seen one of the most bizarre rumours we’ve seen in a while surface. Reports from over in Italy claim that Arsenal could be willing to offer Thomas Partey and some cash to sign Ismael Bennacer from AC Milan.

On the surface, it seems an utterly odd move for the Gunners to be considering. And when you think about it a bit deeper, it would be a move which would effectively hand the title to Man City.

Partey is Arsenal’s best midfielder

Put simply, Arsenal cannot afford to lose Partey. That’s not to say Ismael Bennacer is a bad player. But it is to say that he isn’t going to do what Partey does in this Arsenal side.

The Gunners have yet to lose a game domestically this season with Partey involved. In fact, their only defeat across the board when Partey has played came away at PSV in Europe. And even on that night, Partey only actually played 33 minutes.

It goes without saying, then, that Partey is so, so vital for the Gunners. Like Martin Odegaard or Gabriel Jesus, he is irreplaceable.

That’s an opinion backed up recently by Darren Bent. The TalkSPORT pundit claiming Partey was Arsenal’s most important player.

“My top four at Arsenal would be Ramsdale, Saliba, Partey who’s the glue, and then Gabriel Jesus. But Thomas Partey, when he’s not in that midfield, they look completely different,” Bent said on TalkSPORT.

Certainly, if Arsenal are even considering moving Partey on, then it will cause a ripple at The Emirates to say the least.

And in doing so, would surely hand the momentum and, ultimately, the title, to Man City.
