Arsenal’s pursuit of Leicester City midfielder Youri Tielemans has become a primary priority this summer, according to Fabrizio Romano.

After failing to finish in the top four in the Premier League last season, Arsenal are hoping to bolster Mikel Arteta’s options in the centre of the field by bringing in a new central midfielder.

The fact that Tielemans’ current deal with Leicester still has a year left on it raises doubts about his ability to stay at the King Power Stadium beyond 2023.

According to sources, the Belgian midfielder turned down a contract extension offer from the Foxes, fueling suspicion that a lucrative move for the Belgian might be in the cards during the summer transfer window of 2022.

As a consequence of Tielemans’ talent in the English Premier League, Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur have both been mooted as potential destinations for the 25-year-old in recent weeks.

Despite Tielemans’ six Premier League goals and four assists the previous season, the Foxes were unable to compete for a place in the top four despite his efforts.

Arsenal are attempting to sign Tielemans during the next transfer window, according to Romano, an Italian transfer expert and blogger, despite the fact that no concrete developments have yet occurred.

Nothing urgent is occurring with Tielemans, according to Romano, who was a guest on the Here We Go podcast.

“Arsenal’s first focus is Tielemans, who is still being worked on. The race is wide open in this specific circumstance. Tielemans’ location will be shifting. He has opted not to extend his contract with Leicester City.

“Arsenal is interested in acquiring him. They’ve started the procedure and are looking at the different choices.

Tielemans has grown into one of the Premier League’s most promising centre midfielders under Brendan Rodgers’ coaching at Leicester. He is presently a Leicester City player.

In 158 total games played at the King Power Stadium in all competitions over the previous four years, the Belgium international has scored 24 goals.

Tielemans, who has 49 international appearances for Belgium, was signed by Leicester for £28 million from AS Monaco in 2019.
