Arsenal have taken a big step forward in their pursuit of Dusan Vlahovic, who is expected to depart Fiorentina this month.

The Gunners made the Serbian their primary priority in January as they want to add a striker to their roster.

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang seems set to quit the Emirates after being stripped of his captaincy, while Alexandre Lacazette’s contract expires in the summer.

Vlahovic’s presence, according to Mikel Arteta, will aid them in reaching their goal of finishing in the top four and qualifying for the Champions League this season.

And it appears that a deal is on the cards, as rumours from Italy claim that Fiorentina wants Vlahovic to leave this month because they have been unable to persuade him to sign a contract extension.

The Serie A club does not want to risk allowing Vlahovic to approach the last year of his contract with only 18 months left on his present agreement.

Vlahovic’s representatives are said to have demanded a price of £6.6 million plus 10% of any prospective transfer fee in order to get a contract renewal at Fiorentina.

As a result, according to La Repubblica, the striker’s ‘future is drifting further and further away from Florence,’ with Fiorentina determined to secure the best price for him now.

Ian Wright has lobbied his former club to facilitate Valhovic’s transfer.

“Arsenal have done fantastic business up until this point,” Wright said on The Kelly and Wrighty Show. “I believe they do need to get another striker, even if everything can be sorted with Aubameyang.

“I’m hearing Vlahovic from Fiorentina. We need that player who can be between Lacazette and Aubameyang.

“I don’t know what’s happening with Laca, I’d love him to stay, I don’t know what’s happening with him, and we don’t know what’s happening with Aubameyang.

“But if we can get that striker, that hard-running striker who is good at the link-up play and is a good finisher – which Vlahovic is – then you’re starting to think it’s starting to happen now for Arsenal.”

This weekend, more details about Arsenal’s attempted summer purchase of Emerson Royal emerged, with the midfielder eventually transferring to Tottenham.

Near the end of the transfer window, Arsenal was looking for a right-back and had talks with Barcelona about a move for the Brazilian.

According to The Guardian, when sports director Edu got in touch with the player, negotiations were well underway, but Mikel Arteta interfered to stop the deal from going through since the Spaniard wasn’t convinced.

As a result, on Deadline Day, Arsenal completed a deal for Takehiro Tomiyasu, who has had an outstanding debut season, while Emerson Royal joined city rivals Tottenham.
