Arsenal captain Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang could get his wish in the near future of once again playing with Ousmane Dembele.
The duo played beside each other in their time at Borussia Dortmund, before Dembele made the £120million switch to Barcelona in 2017, with Aubameyang moving to the Emirates Stadium in 2018.
In a report from Le10Sport, they claim that the 32-year-old wanted to be reunited with his old strike partner following his contract renewal with Arsenal as a condition to stay at the club.
Whilst Mikel Arteta didn’t land the France international last summer, there could be an opportunity to in the coming months due to his dwindling contract at Barcelona.
Barcelona president Joan Laporta told journalist Victor Navarro: “Dembélé’s renewal is going slower than we wanted.
“But we’re still working on it – we want Ousmane to stay, he could be a key player if we reach an agreement.”
Dembele’s current contract at the Nou Camp expires next summer, meaning he could leave on a free transfer.
As of January 1, he is able to discuss pre-contractual agreements with clubs outside of Spain, meaning a number of clubs who have been linked could make a move for him.
Last summer was not the first time Dembele has been linked with a move to north London, with the forward pictured in the capital with Aubameyang and fellow Arsenal teammates Alexandre Lacazette, Matteo Guendouzi and Henrikh Mkhitaryan in the summer of 2018, sending supporters into a transfer frenzy.
Bring linked to Arsenal has become something of a regular occurrence since then, but there may be question marks over the type of deal the World Cup winner could land.
He has struggled with injuries throughout his time in La Liga, picking up 13 separate knocks and missing 100 games for the club since his arrival.
New boss Xavi has made it clear that he hopes the winger will renew at the club, but an agreement is yet to be reached and it means there could be a potential renewal of acquaintances between Aubameyang and Dembele in the future.
