Ray Parlour told talkSPORT (17/07/21 at 2:55 pm) that Ben White is going to be a ‘good signing’ for Arsenal.
The Highbury legend thinks that the Arsenal faithful are going to be ‘happy’ with his potential arrival.
BBC Sport have reported that both Arsenal and Brighton have agreed on a £50 million fee for the 23-year-old’s defensive talents.
And whilst Parlour thinks the Gunners are putting a lot of money on the table for him, he has given a thumbs up to his seemingly imminent capture.
“£50 million, which is a lot of money,” said Parlour. “But he’s a good player. He will certainly be in that England squad going forward in many tournaments.
“Chilwell and Walker went for £50 million. Obviously, Harry Maguire is the record. He went for £85 million, didn’t he?!
“But he will definitely play at centre-half for Arsenal, Ben White. 23-years-old. He’s going to sign a five-year contract.
“It just shows the way some players go. Newport County, he was playing for three years ago. So, he has gone to Brighton. He has done really well and now he’s going to be playing for Arsenal.
“The Arsenal fans will be happy with that – I think that’s a good signing for Arsenal even though it’s a lot of money.”
White not only walks into Arsenal’s backline from the get-go, but he also becomes their most important player pretty much straightway from the centre-backs Arteta can pick from.
Only Gabriel can really light a candle next to the Englishman and perhaps Pablo Mari.
For the rest, it wouldn’t be a surprise if they are heading for the exit door this summer because Arteta seriously needs to fix his troublesome defence.
Bringing in White is a start, but a lot more needs to be done by the club.
