Fabrizio Romano has confirmed on his own Youtube channel that Manuel Locatelli has not refused to join Arsenal.
Still a chance
There has been some suggestions in recent times that Locatelli has rejected the chance to join Arsenal.
However, Romano insists that the Gunners’ hopes of signing the Italian international are not over.
Indeed, the transfer guru insists that Arsenal are still waiting for Locatelli’s response, even though a move to the Emirates Stadium may not be his first choice.
“Let me clarify that Locatelli is NOT refusing Arsenal, he is not turning down the opportunity of joining Arsenal. He is just giving his priority to Juventus,” Romano said.
“Arsenal are still there. They’re interested and they’re waiting – they want Locatelli as they consider him as the perfect midfielder for Premier league football. I’m sure he’ll leave Sassuolo this summer – let’s see if it’ll be Juve/Arsenal/something surprising.”
Pushing the boat out
Locatelli does look like an ambitious target for Arsenal, especially after he shone at Euro 2020, with Italy boss Roberto Mancini labelling him a ‘great player’ (Planet Football).
But the Athletic say that Mikel Arteta’s side would be willing to push the boat out to land the central midfielder.
It is understandable why Arsenal are prepared to stretch their budget to bring in Locatelli, too.
A player of his quality could genuinely be a transformative influence on their side, and he looks like a perfect partner for Thomas Partey.
Arsenal have already landed two signings this summer, while they are also closing in on Ben White, with their side set to look very different next term.
