Report: Arsenal have now made 24-year-old their top target; Nuno called him ‘fantastic’

Gianluca Di Marzio has reported on his website that Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal have now made Ruben Neves of Wolverhampton Wanderers their top target, as Manuel Locatelli wants to wait for Juventus.

According to well-known and well-respected Italian football journalist Di Marzio, AS Roma have an agreement with Granit Xhaka over a transfer this summer.

The Italian club are waiting for Arsenal to sign a midfielder first.

The Gunners are eager to sign 23-year-old Italy international midfielder Locatelli.

However, the Sassuolo star wants to wait for Juventus.

This has led Arsenal to making Wolves midfielder Neves their top target.

This is not the first time that Neves has been mentioned in regard to a move to Arsenal in the summer transfer window.

The Daily Mail reported in June that Arteta’s side are planning to make a move for the Portugal international.

The 24-year-old has done well for Wolves over the years.

The Wolves no.8 helped the Wanderers clinch promotion to the Premier League and then guided them to the Europa League.

Neves was deployed in a central midfield role by Nuno – now the head coach of Tottenham Hotspur – last season.

But the midfielder still scored five goals and gave one assist in the Premier League.

Former Wolves manager Nuno called Neves as “a fantastic player” in May 2021, as quoted in The Express & Star.

The Portugal international would be able to form a strong partnership with Thomas Partey in the middle of the park for Arsenal.
