Ben Sheaf has posted on Instagram after leaving Arsenal on a permanent basis to join Coventry City, having spent last season on loan there. The versatile midfielder impressed during his time with the Sky Blues. Plenty have reacted to Sheaf leaving Arsenal, including Eddie Nketiah.
Sheaf, 23, played two times for Arsenal’s first team and was a regular in the Under-23 side – featuring 60 times for the second string. But he chose to go out on loan last season and helped Coventry stay in the Championship – following promotion. Now, he has returned to join permanently.
While a fee is being labelled undisclosed, Sheaf has penned a three-year deal with Coventry. His ability to play centre-back, holding midfield or even as a box-to-box midfielder has seemingly convinced the Championship club. He posted a heartfelt message to Arsenal and the club’s supporters.
What have Nketiah and others said, as Sheaf leaves Arsenal?
At the age of 23, Sheaf has surpassed the up-and-coming stage and is now desperately in need of regular first-team football. Just two senior games with the Gunners is clearly not enough. A move was desperately needed this summer, if not a bit late. He will be hoping to start for next season
Nketiah, along with Zech Medley – who has also left Arsenal to join Belgian side KV Oostende on a permanent basis – wished him luck. Dan Ballard joined Millwall on loan on Thursday and sent Sheaf a message, while Reiss Nelson also commented, posting a series of emojis.
