Fabrizio Romano has claimed on the Don Robbie YouTube channel that Juventus are leading the race for Arsenal target Manuel Locatelli.
The well-known and well-respected journalist has said that Arsenal are interested in signing Locatelli from Sassuolo in the summer transfer window.
However, it is Juventus who are leading the race for the 23-year-old Italy international.
The midfielder is claimed to be valued at €40 million (£34.36 million).
As we covered here on HITC Sport, Il Resto Del Carlino reported interest from Arsenal in Locatelli last month.
WHAT’S BEEN SAID?
Romano said on the Don Robbie YouTube channel: “He is leaving the club. Also because really many clubs are asking about Locatelli, many clubs. I can tell you from Spain, from Germany, from England.
“Rumours about Arsenal making a bid are not true, they have not made a bid, but they are interested. So, they are looking at the player. Not only Arsenal, Manchester City have been scouting him for a long time, and Chelsea too. So many clubs are looking at Locatelli, but what I can tell you is that now leading the race are Juventus.”
The journalist added: “The price is €40 million (£34.36 million).”
WOULD MANUEL LOCATELLI MAKE ARSENAL BETTER?
Locatelli has been on the books of Sassuolo on a permanent contract since 2019 after a loan spell from AC Milan.
The central midfielder made 32 starts and two substitute appearances in Serie A last season.
The youngster scored four goals and gave two assists in those games.
Locatelli is at the right age to take the next step in his career.
Granit Xhaka is likely to leave, and Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta needs to find a suitable replacement.
Locatelli could be that man.
The Italian would be able to form a strong partnership with Thomas Partey in the middle of the park.
However, with Juventus now reportedly leading the race for Locatelli, it may not be easy for Arsenal to get a transfer deal done.
