Report: Arsenal set to move for £50,000-a-week Wolves player this week

Arsenal will make their first move for Wolves midfielder Ruben Neves later this week, according to a report by The Telegraph.

The Gunners are eyeing the Premier League player as a replacement for Granit Xhaka who is closing on a move to Roma.

Neves has been with Wolves for four years. It is claimed in the report that the player is keen to leave Molineux this summer.

The 24-year-old has been in the West Midlands for four years. He helped the club into the top-flight and has helped them establish as a Premier League outfit.

Mikel Arteta has been a big fan of Neves for many years. Manchester City tried to sign him when the Spaniard was the assistant manager at the Etihad Stadium.

The man with 20 caps for his country won’t come cheap. Wolves are hoping to recoup £40 million for the player if he leaves this summer.

One year ago, the club sold Diogo Jota for £45 million and they want a fee in the same ballpark for Neves.

Arsenal will go in search of reinforcements this window. They finished eighth last season and know that won’t do during 2021/22.

With Xhaka set to link up with Jose Mourinho there is a spot up for grabs in midfield.

The Gunners hope to get it filled pretty quickly by landing the Wolves man.

Neves to Arsenal: Portugal star could thrive

Gunners supporters may well turn their noses up at this potential deal.

Some believe other options are more suitable but Arsenal fans have to remember where they are.

Signing the very best players won’t really be an option, especially with no European football on the table.

Neves is a reliable performer and at 24 he has plenty of time to continue improving.

He has played 109 times in the Premier League, scoring 11 goals and claiming six assists.

There is still hope that Thomas Partey can come good next season and Neves could be the perfect player to get the best out of him.

The valuation for the £50,000-a-week player isn’t ideal but given his promise, he could prove a steal for Arsenal.
