Arsenal chief Edu backed to secure £45m Thomas Partey and £53m Houssem Aouar transfers

Arsenal have been backed to sign both Thomas Partey and Houssem Aouar from Atletico Madrid and Lyon before the transfer window closes on October 5. Arsenal are eager to strengthen the spine of their side and are hoping to offload players to launch a big-money raid for a new midfielder.

The Gunners have signed Pablo Mari, Cedric Soares, Willian, Gabriel Magalhaes, Dani Ceballos on loan and Runar Alex Runarsson so far this summer.

But Mikel Arteta is keen to bolster his side further with the arrival of a top-level midfielder, with Partey and Aouar topping his list.

Ideally, the Arsenal manager would like to bring both players to north London given their different profiles.

Atletico holder Partey is a midfield general while the versatile Aouar is more of an attack-minded final-third creator.

But while Atletico hold out for the Ghanaian’s £45million release clause to be met and Lyon demand around £53m for Aouar, Arsenal legend Kevin Campbell is confident technical director Edu and manager Mikel Arteta will broker a deal for both of the pair.

Campbell told GentingBet: “Central midfield is the key area for Arsenal and there’s talk of Thomas Partey and Houssem Aouar, from Lyon and I think they’re the two key positions.

“Thomas Partey is a defensive type midfielder, but he’s got so much to his game, he can go box to box and really, he can do it all.

“Aouar is a creative player who can play numerous positions across midfield and even across the front.

“So, I think those are the two players been heavily linked to the club and are in talks of coming in.

“I think Arteta and Edu will get it done, in the end. I’m not sure how quick it will be and it might be right up to the to the deadline date, but I think Arsenal will get it done.”

Speaking earlier this month, however, transfer expert Fabrizio Romano ruled out Arsenal signing both Partey and Aouar due to their financial constraints.

“We will see because Arsenal are monitoring him so they will try again in my opinion,” he said on the Here We Go podcast.

“They are in talks with his agent but it’s so difficult in this moment to get him because of the president Aulas.

“It’s complicated but for sure he is on the list. I will also say it’s just one between Thomas and Aouar this summer.
