Arsenal close to signing La Liga star

Arsenal’s form since football restarted has been patchy to say the least.

Four consecutive away matches have rustled up two wins and two defeats. Inconsistency has been the order of the day, but there are some positives emerging.

After conceding late on against Sheffield United, instead of crumbling, the Gunners remained resilient and went onto score just a matter of minutes later.

There was a newfound willingness in those final five minutes but manager Mikel Arteta will be all too aware of the job he has on his hands.

Arsenal’s next match is finally at home as they face basement boys Norwich City, a side who exited the FA Cup last weekend.

The Gunners go into that clash potentially with Lucas Torreira back in the fold. The midfielder has been out since being injured against Portsmouth in the cup and is being assessed ahead of Wednesday evening.

Arsenal have a plethora of midfielders to choose from at the moment, particularly now Bukayo Saka is being fielded in that area of the pitch, but the middle of the park could get even stronger this summer.

That’s if a very particular player arrives from La Liga.

Arsenal have been linked with Thomas Partey for what feels like forever. For a period, it looked like Barcelona had beaten the Gunners to his signature, but that no longer is the case.

It now appears as though the midfielder is ‘close’ to officially arriving in England. That’s according to Larazon who suggest Arteta’s men will pay Partey’s release clause of €50m (£45.6m) to steal him away from Madrid.

The same report suggests Arsenal are also interested in Marc Roca, Carlos Soler and Enis Bardhi.

Partey, however, is clearly their main target.
