Arsenal’s recent interest in Atletico Madrid midfielder Thomas Partey continues to rumbling on. The Ghanaian midfielder is reportedly keen on a move to North London and, as reported by The Guardian, the powerhouse has a €50 million (£44m) release clause in his contract at the Wanda Metropolitano.
However, given the current global health situation, Arsenal are not set to be in a financial position to fund such a deal.
Instead, a swap deal might be more pertinent and according to Bleacher Report, the Spanish side are interested in four Gunners players with Partey ‘top of the list’ when it comes to Arsenal’s own transfer targets.
The name consistently doing the rounds is that of Alexandre Lacazette. The Frenchman was set to join Atletico prior to his Arsenal switch in 2017. However, a transfer embargo on the Spanish side meant that deal had to be cancelled.
However, B/R suggests that Lacazette might not be interested in the move, leaving Arsenal to consider other potential options.
In that case, three other first-team players interest Atletico and could be used in a deal.
Those players are Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Shkodran Mustafi, and Matteo Guendouzi.
Aubameyang is expected to be sold by Arsenal this summer with his contract expiring and no inkling of a new deal being agreed. Mustafi has improved his form in recent months but with William Saliba and Pablo Mari expected to become permanent fixtures at The Emirates next season, could be expendable. Guendouzi, meanwhile, has not been as regular a first-team player at Arsenal under Mikel Arteta’s management.
So it would appear that Arsenal have options when offering players to Los Colchoneros for their number one midfield target this summer. Gunners fans will no doubt hope one of them proves the right fit.
