Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta is looking to bolster his defensive ranks at the Emirates Stadium in the summer transfer window.
Arsenal are fighting Liverpool for the services of Eintracht Frankfurt defender Evan N’Dicka in the summer transfer window, as they seek defensive reinforcements.
Mikel Arteta is looking for a partner for William Saliba next season, with RB Leipzig’s Dayot Upamecano top of the wishlist, but a lack of European football could be a detriment in their pursuit, with the likes of Barcelona also keen.
The fight for the services of £20m-rated N’Dicka will also be fierce, with Napoli and Inter Milan eyeing his services, but Area Napoli report the 21-year-old dreams of a Premier League move.
That seems to put Arsenal and Liverpool at the front of the list in the hunt for the highly-rated defender – but the Gunners have a significant advantage over their Premier League rivals.
N’Dicka lists Aboubacar Traore amongst his entourage and he was one of the men that helped to orchestrate Nicolas Pepe’s record-breaking move to the Emirates Stadium last summer.
Arsenal paid a club-record £72m to land Pepe from Lille last summer, with the representatives of the Ivory Coast international, including Traore, reported to have played a vital role in his decision.
That would appear to give Arsenal an edge over Liverpool in the transfer battle due to their close working relationship, while he’d also have a better chance of making a first-team impact at the Emirates Stadium.
A move to Arsenal would allow N’Dicka to unite with fellow French youngsters Saliba and Matteo Guendouzi, with the trio potentially becoming a significant part of the future of their national side.
However, it remains to be seen how the transfer market will be affected by the coronavirus outbreak which has led to a halt of football across the continent.
