The latest Arsenal news and January transfer gossip, plus build-up to the Gunners’ FA Cup fourth round tie against Bournemouth tonight.

Arsenal are preparing for their FA Cup fourth round tie against fellow Premier League outfit Bournemouth.

It’s the north London outfit’s second trip to the Vitality Stadium in the space of a month as Mikel Arteta’s side look to improve on the 1-1 draw on Boxing Day.

As well as progression in the FA Cup, there will be one eye on transfers. Deadline day is fast approaching and Arsenal are yet to make a signing despite links to the likes of Pablo Mari and Bruno Guimaraes.

It could very well be an exciting week ahead.

Pablo Mari deal ‘confirmed’ on social media

Pablo Mari’s friends have taken to social media to wish the defender luck ahead of his expected move to Arsenal.

The Flamengo centre-back is reportedly close to joining on loan until the end of the season, with the Gunners having an option to make the move permanent in the summer.

According to reports, Mari arrived in London on Saturday to undergo a medical ahead of completing the formalities which would see him arrive at the Emirates as Mikel Arteta’s first signing.

Bruno Guimaraes transfer update

Lyon chief Juninho has confirmed that Bruno Guimaraes is on the brink of completing a move to the French side.

The Athletico Paranaense defensive midfielder has been strongly linked with a move to Europe in the January transfer window, with Arsenal among the clubs named as potential suitors for the 22-year-old, alongside Atletico Madrid and Lyon.

The Gunners are looking to strengthen their midfield, and saw the 22-year-old as a potential target following his impressive performances in the Brazilian league this season.

He has featured 35 times in all competitions during the 2019 season in Brazil, scoring four goals and providing three assists.

Guimaraes, who has also captained the team on one occasion and has one cap for Brazil’s U23 team, has attracted plenty of attention with his performances, with Benfica and Chelsea also among the clubs linked.

But Lyon sporting director Juninho has now confirmed that Guimaraes is close to making the move to France, with medical tests set to be done in Colombia this week.

Speaking after a 3-0 win against Toulouse, he said: “For Bruno Guimaraes, it’s 95% done. We’re going to go there to do the last tests. We’ll see him on Wednesday to have his medical tests.

“We hope to announce it quickly. He is very technically capable.”

What Claude Puel did with William Saliba

As pointed out by French journalist Macky Diong, Saint-Etienne manager Claude Puel has stayed behind to work one-on-one with players, including William Saliba.

The French boss stayed behind for almost half-an-hour working on one-to-one defending with the 18-year-old.

The Frenchman has previously worked with Harry Maguire and Virgil van Dijk, and has a reputation for working with young players.

Saliba has played seven games in all competitions so far this season.

Flamengo fan reacts to Pablo Mari’s impending Arsenal transfer

Posting on Reddit, a Flamengo fan sent a message to Arsenal supporters over Pablo Mari’s impending move to north London.

“Flamengo fan here not coming in peace. Give us Pablo back,” they wrote.

“You have 48 hours to make him fail the medicals and fly him back to Rio de Janeiro.”

The fan also then gave an encouraging statement on how Mari may adapt to the Premier League.

“I think he can adapt quickly,” they said.

“He spent all his career in Europe and only 6 months in Brazil. When he arrived people doubted he would make it because of the culture shock, language, long Brasileirão travels and all that but he played like he was there for years.

“He adapted to a totally different reality like a duck from ground to water.

“S0 I think he will be absolutely fine.”
