The Crystal Palace winger was linked with a move to Arsenal but the Gunners signed his Ivory Coast team-mate instead.
Wilfried Zaha has told Arsenal fans to give Nicolas Pepe time to find his feet following his £72million transfer from Lille.
The Gunners were in hot pursuit of both Zaha and Pepe all summer and went back and forth a few times with Crystal Palace over the price for the 26-year-old.
Eventually Arsenal focused their attention on Pepe instead and parted with a club-record £72million in installments to sign him.
Much expectation is now on the shoulders of the Ivory Coast international, who hasn’t hit the ground running in the way supporters were expecting.
Zaha is confident that his international team-mate can turn things around though.
And has called on the Arsenal fans to give the 24-year-old time to adapt to his new surroundings.
“I see the social media, I see everything and it’s a thing where he needs time. He’s come from another league, he’s young,” Zaha told the BBC.
“There’s this price tag that he has not put on himself, people have put that on him because of his performances, so you’ve got to give him time for him to reproduce that, it’s not going to come like that.
“I have got nothing but faith in him, I’ve got confidence that he will produce the same thing that he did before, because we both play for Ivory Coast, I’ve seen the talent he’s got, but not everyone sees it.”
